Common Tern Project at Little Marlow GP - 2006

For over ten years members of the Buckinghamshire Bird Club have provided nesting rafts for the Common Terns that spend the summer at Little Marlow Gravel Pit.

The completed 2006 rafts.   Thanks to Sychem (www.sychem.co.uk) who provided the barrels, the Buckinghamshire Bird Club, who provided most of the timber, and to Lefarge Aggregates for permission to use the lake for this purpose.

One of the 2005 colour rings.  Orange/Yellow.  11 birds ringed. 

As juveniles do not return in their first year, we hope to see these in the summer of 2007.


2004 - Blue/Yellow - 16 birds ringed.

Sightings - August 2004 at Queen Elizabeth 2 Reservoir, Surrey.


2003 - Red/Yellow - 18 birds ringed

At least one bird returned to Little Marlow in 2005

Other Sightings - July 2005 at Titchfield Haven Hampshire; a probable (due to fading colours).

One of the 2002 colour rings.  Dark Green over Yellow.  16 birds were ringed. 

At least one bird returned to Little Marlow in 2005 and 2006.
