The winter of 2007/8 has produced good numbers of Goldeneye at Foxcote Reservoir. The species favours deeper lakes but does seem to avoids other apparently suitable lakes. The above bird is a female. Juvenile Goldeneye have a similar plumage but lack the orange on the tip of the bill, the whitish breast and the bright pale eye.

This very nice male Goldeneye was photographed at Calvert Lake, which is one of the more reliable sites in the county for this species. Goldeneyes are winter visitors to Bucks, being present in the county between November and March.
