This species is increasingly common in Bucks these days, and now breeding at some sites. These two photographs clearlu show the main identification features of this species. i.e. The white and black in the wing; the overall greyish appearance of the male (with black bill); the general brownish colouration of the female (with orange sides to the bill).

The Gadwall is a common species at many lakes around the county. It is fairly easy to overlook with it's greyish-brown appearance. It has bred at several sites in the county in recent years.
